The MOVE IT Academies provide talented dancers with intensive tuition from the world’s top dance talent.
The first academy takes place for five days on the 29th July – 2nd August at BASE Studios London.

Who, When & Where?

The first ever MOVE IT Academy takes place on the 29 July – 2 August at BASE Studios London. The programme is curated by globally respected choreographer Lukas McFarlane. Lukas has worked with some of the biggest artists in the world including Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen and Celine Dion, you may also have caught him performing alongside P!NK on the BRIT Awards this year. This 5 day intensive gives you the chance to train with Lukas himself alongside top artists that have helped shape him in his incredible career.

What Will I Gain?

The Academy provides dancers with intermediate experience with the opportunity to develop their technical training, audition skills and choreography technique through seminars, workshops and intensives.  All dancers who train at the Academy in 2019 may have the unique opportunity to join a company of some of the UK’s most talented dancers to perform on the MOVE IT 2020 stage in a piece choreographed by Lukas himself. Lukas and his team will be scouting throughout the academies so bring your ‘A’ game!

MONDAY 29 JULY
10:00-11:15 – Ballet Barre – Alice Robinson 

• Daily Ballet class taught by Alice Robinson will develop dancers technique, endurance, strength and grace.

11:15-12:30 – Contemporary Technique – Sarah Dolan

•  With credits including So You Think  You Can Dance, Art on Ice and choreographer for Jessie J, The Jacksons and Nelly Furtado to name a few, Sarah Dolan is teaching contemporary technique. 

12:30-13:45 – Intro to Partnering – Lukas McFarlane

• Intro to Partnering is your first session with Lukas himself. You’ve seen his choreography and now here’s a chance to learn it and to develop your rapport with a partner.

13:45-14:30 – Seminar – Injury Prevention – Natalie Rogalski

• Knowledge is power and our seminar programme is key to longevity as a dancer or choreographer.  Physiotherapist Natalie Rogalski leads this session on injury prevention and delivers top tips on how to protect and strengthen your body for the dance you do. 

15:30-17:30 – Masterclass- Lukas McFarlane

• The Masterclass series gives you two hours of intense training and choreography.  If you’ve watched and loved his material online, here is your chance to spend extended studio time learning directly from Lukas himself.  

15:30-16:30 – Workshop – Tasha Richardson 

16:30-17:30 – Workshop – Sam Parry 

•  Get an insight into a dancers life and how UnTitled Company works in our afternoon sessions.

• Glenn is Artistic Director of Definitives Dance Company based in London. He’s performed and choreographed for the likes of Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora and Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa. He’s taught and performed across the globe – who better to teach this introduction to Hip Hop.

13:45-14:30 – Seminar – A Career in Dance- Lukas McFarlane

• In todays’ seminar Lukas shares his story, learn about the choices he made, the opportunities he jumped on and what he’s got planned for the future. He’ll talk about the differences of his work as dancer, choreographer and teacher. Throughout the week there is an opportunity to learn from professional artists; let them inspire you to find your path in the industry.

• Get funky with Marisa and learn about Waacking history, foundation, technique and the vocabulary of the style.

13:45-14:30 – Seminar – Mental Health In The Industry –  Raffaella- Marie Covino

•  Raffaella-Marie Covino is founder and director of Applause for Thought. She leads free and low cost mental health support, talks and workshops to those working in the arts industry. Today she is talking about mental health for dancers, learn how to support yourself and thrive in the industry.

• The last in our seminars focuses on working in theatre. Learn about the differences of working commercially and in the theatre world from Alex Sarmiento.
