15 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT KHYRESE HERON…
What does dance mean to you?
Dance means a lot to me as it’s such a big part of my everyday life. It has made me a better person as it’s brought confidence within myself and taught me lessons that go apply to my life outside of dance. I’ve made friendships and bonds like no other with dancers from all around the world and when I dance it’s just a great feeling that words couldn’t describe.
What style of dance do you specialise in and why?
Hip-hop/ Street Dance & Urban Dance are my speciality. I grew up around a lot of RnB, 90s & Rap music from my family. The first glimpses of dance I saw was in music videos, films and TV shows that incorporated urban dance. It was the style that first brought me into the dance world and is the style that relates to me and I feel I can express the most. The best part is being able to take influences from those that inspire me and apply it to my dance to all genres of music.
What message do you want to spread across the dance world?
One message I hope to spread around the dance world is the message of growing as better dancers and people together. Supporting each other in the little and big ways to give people that added push they need to achieve. The more we stand by each other the more we can elevate this art form called dance we love so much. Don’t be afraid to reach out to each other.
Who has been your biggest inspiration in life?
My biggest inspiration is no question – my Mum. She is my everyday superhero and sacrifices so much to allow me to live the best life possible and that’s being able to dance. Her attitude towards life motivates me and our bond and our friendship is something so special to me.I have also brought her into the dance world. We can sit and watch dance videos for hours at home. I’m so lucky to have her in my life!
What quote do you live by and why?
Fight for your goals as much as you need to breath. I first heard this from my teacher Omar from IMD Legion. It’s such a clear statement and if you put in the work and effort as desperately as needing air to breath, you will be able to achieve. It teaches me to keep striving and keep climbing to be the best version of myself.
Describe yourself in 1 word?
Hungry- I have a deep hunger and passion to succeed & perform at my best. To get better whether it’s on stage or in training. My hunger takes over on stage which is why I rarely look tired because each performance has to be my best yet.
What has been your biggest achievement so far in your career?
Making the finals of Hip-Hop International 2019 with my crew IMD Legion and winning Taking the Next Step.
What exciting opportunities do you have coming up in 2019/2020?
I can’t really say yet but exciting stuff indeed ahead!
What does MOVE IT mean to you?
MOVE IT is a special event dancers look forward to because it’s the time of the year to really reconnect, discover, be inspired and be surrounded by so many amazing people from the dance community. Getting the opportunity to see friends that I don’t always see is awesome. MOVE IT grows every year and it’s something I’ve personally grown up with in my dance career since the start. It’s like a dancers version of Christmas. So for me to be the face of MOVE IT for it’s 15th birthday, is an honour and I can’t wait to bring great vibes all weekend long!
As MOVE IT is celebrating their 15th birthday, what did you do for your 15th birthday?
For my 15th birthday – as my birthday is Boxing Day, I have a tradition with my mum and we go to TGI Fridays, then we will go home and obviously watch a dance movie. It’s simple but wouldn’t I have it any other way.
What is your go – to party trick?
I don’t go to a lot of parties due to dance but I would say like back flip is something quick and impressive.
What is the 15th most used emoji on your phone?
The Canadian flag because I love Canada. I have a lot of friends there and some of my favourite crews and dancers are from there. Poutine is the best national dish ever, you should try it!
What is your favourite part of birthday parties?
The best thing is the music and the dancing. The moment that tune comes on that everyone knows, and from the intro the energy get’s built! There is nothing like having a good time with good people.
What song at a birthday party gets you dancing?
I love RnB and hip hop music so any of those genres and you will see me on the dance floor 100% giving it my all even if it’s by myself😂
Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
I hope to be choreographing, creating, producing and sharing the knowledge I’ve learnt to the next generation to come. I also want to keep growing within myself as you can never stop learning.
