Step into Dance, the UK’s biggest secondary schools dance programme, is offering a great opportunity for anyone that teaches dance to young people. This lively workshop will provide new ideas and a fresh approach to delivering dance.
Meet the teachers!
Jodie is a dance facilitator specialising in contemporary and creative dance. She has received a BA (Hons) in Dance Performance from Middlesex University and is currently studying a Master of Arts in Movement: Directing and Teaching at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Jodie has been part of Step into Dance for 8 years and has mentored and trained the organisation’s dance facilitators.
Jodie will be assisted by Gavin Vincent, a senior member of the Soul Mavericks, undeniably one of the most successful b-boy crews in the UK. Gavin has taught at Step into Dance for 6 years and travells extensively in the UK and abroad to compete, perform and teach breaking.
What to expect?
This practical workshop merging contemporary and street dance (breaking) will highlight how altering the way we perform a move can extend our movement vocabulary, and enable us to switch between one dance genre and another. Ultimately, the session will break down the barriers between genres and celebrate what dance styles share, as well as how they differ.
No matter what dance style you are into, you will gain a deeper understanding of the underlying principles of movement relevant to all dance styles, and you will be able to apply what you’ve learnt in your own dance classes.
