Dr. Anne Hogan

Anne Hogan, BA, MA, PhD
Director of Education, Royal Academy of Dance
A former member of the Boston Ballet Company and Pacific Northwest Ballet, Anne is the Director of Education at the Royal Academy of Dance. She has performed in a variety of classical and contemporary ballets in the US, China, Israel, Hong Kong, Italy and France, as well as performing throughout Europe and the US in productions featuring and staged by Rudolf Nureyev. She received her BA from Harvard University and her MA and PhD in English Literature from Brown University. In 1994, she moved to France, where she taught in the Department of Comparative Literature at the American University of Paris, and continued her interest in dance through teaching and in co-founding the Paris-based ACM Ballet Theatre.
In 2001, Anne moved to London as the Head of Post-Graduate Studies and Research at London Contemporary Dance School (Conservatoire for Dance and Drama), and was subsequently the Associate Dean of Humanities, Arts, Languages and Education at London Metropolitan University.
Anne has over 20 years of teaching experience in dance and fitness in the US, England, and France, including classes and workshops in classical ballet, jazz, floor barre, aerobics, body conditioning, and body fundamentals. Her 'Ballet-based Body Conditioning' method, initially developed for dancers as a core-strengthening supplement to dance technique class, employs a complementary range of bodywork principles to enhance strength, flexibility, and fluidity of movement through lengthening the muscles and focusing on proper alignment.
